There is a family legend that a long time ago a distant cousin was sent a message that he was to inherit a large family fortune. All he had to do was go over to Ireland to collect it. But after visiting a fortune teller who informed him that he would perish on the trip he chose not to go after all...what that fortune entailed, or if the story is even true I don;t know but it's kinda cool having it passed down.

My grandfather Michael McDermott came to the U.S from Ballysador, County Sligo when he was just 19yrs old. his brother John had already immagrated to St. Louis Missouri and sponsered his younger brother Michael. Michael traveled on the ship Majestic in the fall of 1900. he was listed on the passenger log as a laborer and had only 20 in his pocket. I cannot go across town on 20.
